Praveen wants to work in the Indian Railways!

Pravin Katara
Dear Harishankar,

Praveen Katara hails from a place called Santrampur which is tribal area in Gujarat.

Eighteen year old Praveen is the second child of his family and was born visually impaired. His parents were very sad and upset with their child’s condition and did not know how to deal with it. They were disappointed at having a handicapped child and  had been to all traditional healers to cure his blindness. They left no stone unturned to treat their child and even consulted doctors in cities, but there was no treatment to such birth defects.

Not aware of schools for the Blind, Praveen’s parents did not get him enrolled in any school. During one of BPA’s home visits, the field worker and special educator, Mr. Sisholi counseled his parents and convinced them that even Praveen can study and pass like all other normal students. He offered to home school Praveen.

His parents readily agreed and Mr. Sisholi started teaching Praveen at home and he passed his 7th grade this way. Having passed his 7th grade, his parents were unsure about continuing his studies, but Mr. Sisholi advised them to send Praveen to the school for the Blind run by Blind People’s Association. His parents were not willing to send their son away to study until Mr. Sisholi took them to BPA and showed the infrastructure and facilities made available for children like Praveen.

They were thoroughly impressed and got Praveen enrolled for further studies. He is now studying in the 10th grade and required a Braille kit for taking down class notes. It’s your generous donation, Harishankar, that enabled  BPA to provide him with a Braille kit. Thanks to you, he is now preparing to appear for his Gujarat Board Exam and wants to study Commerce and work in the Indian Railway.

Thank you, Harishankar, for your support! It means a lot to Praveen and his family.
